ABOUT BAKES ON MESH
What is bakes on mesh ?
Bakes on Mesh (also called "BOM") is a new feature to allow system avatar layers (such as tattoo layers) to be shown on mesh attachments, such as mesh bodies and mesh heads. Using this feature, you’ll be able to apply several tattoo layers to customise skin, tattoos, clothing, etc on your mesh.

What are the benefits of bakes on mesh ?
- No more applier limitation : making it easier to customise your avatar! No more will you have to choose between that cute blush and these fierce brows, you can have it all! With BOM, you can add up to 62 layers on your avatar. Hi infinite customisation, how are ya?
- No more complicated HUDs : it's back to basics with BOM, you add your tattoo layers on the order you want them to show up (blush before brows, unless you're into that, we're not judging), save your outfit configuration, and you're all set! No longer will you have to use script-heavy presets huds, or scavenge through your inventory for the correct applier hud.
- No more alpha glitches : often observed with lashes and hairs, these glitches causes the texture of the makeup to disappear along the mesh lines of the lashes or hair, I'm sure you know what i'm talking about girl. Well, no more of that!
How do I use bakes on mesh ?
First, in order to see & use BOM, please make sure to upgrade your viewer to the latest version, or to a version that supports bakes on mesh (SL Official Viewer || Firestorm). For the purpose of this tutorial, we will mainly focus on mesh heads, as this is the area our makeup is mostly located, keep in mind the process is similar for your mesh body of choices.
1 - I own a Native BOM support head and/or body - such as Lelutka Evolution or Slink Redux Body,ect..
Your head is ready for BOM, you can directly wear our tattoo layers on it. If you have a skin that has been optimised for your head or body, you can also wear it automatically without the need for an applier.
2 - I have a head that uses a BOM relay system - such as Catwa's bento heads, Genus Bento heads, Lelutka Origin,ect...
You need to make sure your head is updated to support BOM, visit your mesh head's creator websites or social and/or check their redeliver server for an updated version.
Once your head is updated, activate the BOM button on the HUD - see examples below (location subject to change) :

Your system avatar head might poke through, in which case it simply means that you need to remove your alpha layer (another benefit from BOM).
Our tattoo layers are ready to go, you simply need to right click on them and select "add" for it to "bake" on your mesh head. Regarding other items of interests, such as skin, you might need to take some time finding a skin that works for you and your body. Most of your system skin should work, but some texture placement may look odd on your head/body (such as nail), many designers now include BOM compatible skin in their recent releases.

Are Dotty's Secret Products bakes on mesh compatible ?
Yes ! All of them !
From the very beginning, we have always provided classic tattoo layers versions of our products in every pack! They are automatically compatible with BOM, however, fitting may vary depending on your shape and head. You may have noticed we have recently changed our "Classic Avatars" icon for a "Bake on mesh layers" icon. Both really means the same thing: a system tattoo layer in included in the pack. |
About the future of appliers
We really believe Bakes On Mesh is going to make it easier for our customers to enjoy our products, opening new doors for customisation. However, we do understand why making the switch can be difficult, or quite the investment, since you might mostly have applier skin/makeup available in your inventory. We believe the offer provided with our fellow creators for the BOM market will expand rapidly, hopefully giving you plenty of choices.
In the meantime, we are planning on continuing support of traditional appliers, but in the future, it is planned we will drop support of traditional appliers to focus, when possible, on limited brand support for HD lips and eye-shadow, and provide BOM compatible tattoo layers. We will communicate on this date later.
